Lump on Neck
Overview
Abnormal masses that form in the neck are relatively common, yet unfamiliar conditions. Any unusual growth in the neck area is considered an abnormal neck mass. These neck masses have many causes and may be associated with no other identifiable symptoms. Abnormal neck masses result from a bacterial or viral infection, cyst, injury or other rare conditions. Although often harmless, neck muscles may indicate other serious problems and therefore should be evaluated by a specialist. Generally, neck masses that are painful are more likely to be infected, however only a doctor can diagnosis your specific condition.
Diagnosis
Our doctors run tests and take samples to classify and correctly identify abnormal neck masses. Only a doctor can recommend the best treatment for your condition depending on your age, health and specific test results. Often times, abnormal neck masses can be treated in our office during an appointment.
